Nursing Home Manager Salaries
Salaries for nursing home management roles vary depending on the level of the position, the size and complexity of the service, and which nursing qualifications are required. Based on current market data and live vacancies, typical ranges for the roles we place are:
- Deputy Manager (RGN/RMN) - £45,000–£65,000
- Home Manager (RGN/RMN required) - £55,000–£100,000
- Clinical Home Manager (large or complex service) - £65,000–£90,000
- Regional or Operations Manager (multi-site) - £75,000–£100,000
The key factors that affect where a role sits within these ranges include bed count and occupancy targets, clinical complexity and dependency levels, CQC rating and regulatory history, whether the role is supernumerary or hands-on, and location (with London and the South East typically commanding 10–15% above equivalent roles elsewhere in the UK).
An active NMC PIN is required for the majority of Home Manager roles in nursing homes. Roles that do not require a nursing qualification tend to sit at the lower end of the salary range.
What Our Clients Look For
Private nursing home operators recruiting at this level consistently prioritise the following in candidates:
- A current NMC PIN. RGN qualification is standard; RMN is required for dual-registered or mental health nursing services.
- Proven experience managing or deputising within a CQC-registered nursing home.
- A strong track record of maintaining or improving CQC ratings, including experience managing inspections.
- Sound clinical governance knowledge and the ability to lead a nursing team
- Commercial awareness. Occupancy management, budgetary oversight, and relationship management with local authorities and commissioners.
- Strong people leadership and staff retention skills, particularly in homes with high agency spend.
For deputy manager roles, operators additionally look for candidates who are ready to step up and can demonstrate they have managed the home in the absence of the Home Manager.
