CQC books COVID-19 testing appointments for almost 12,500 care staff
Almost 12,500 COVID-19 testing appointments for care staff have been booked by the CQC as part of its support measures for social care.
The CQC said almost 25,000 locations had been contacted since April 10 and 12,422 appointments booked for staff in partnership with Public Health England and local decision makers, including the Association of Directors of Adult Social Care Services (ADASS).
In additional to the drive-through testing centres being provided, the CQC is also piloting home testing kits for those without a car.
In a joint statement with the British Medical Association (BMA), Care Provider Alliance (CPA) and Royal College of General Practice (RCGP), the CQC also said the broad use of advance care plans, with or without Do Not Attempt to Resuscitate (DNAR) forms was unacceptable, stressing that decisions must continue to be made on an individual basis according to need.
The CQC is also working with the Office of National Statistics to provide a more detailed and timely analysis of care home COVID-19 related deaths from 28 April following widespread criticism that the toll on the sector was being underreported.
Ian Trenholm, Chief Executive of CQC, (pictured) said: “We’ve taken some really practical steps to support adult social care during a time of unimaginable pressure, and we’ll continue to develop the package of support we’re offering across all sectors to help providers prioritise the safety of people using services and of staff delivering care.”
The CQC boss said the Commission was also developing an Emergency Support Framework that uses data and information across all sectors to help inspectors target support to providers and ensure people get safe care.
